“200 Years of Statehood” Candlelight Tours
Each year, during the holiday season, the C.H. Moore Homestead DeWitt County Museum is decorated in full Victorian splendor, illuminated by candles, and filled with music. For many it has become a treasured Christmas tradition. In commemoration of the Illinois Bicentennial, the theme for 2018 is “200 Years of Statehood.”
These special candlelight holiday tours are open to the public and take place on Friday evenings only; beginning the Friday following Thanksgiving. On that evening, Santa will be greeting visitors in the carriage barn 5-7pm and Woods Photo Studio will be offering children and family portraits with Santa.
The remainder of the tours will take place November 30, and December 7, 14, and 21. In addition, the Museum Gift Shop, which offers a variety of seasonal gift items, Apple ‘n Pork Festival logo merchandise, Illinois ornaments, books by local authors, and more, will also be open during the candlelight tours.
Guests may enter the house at the front door. Tours are self-guided, so visitors may come calling anytime between the hours of 5:00pm and 7:30pm and take as much or as little time as desired exploring the historic house, exhibits, and carriage barn. Additional parking is available in the lot directly across the street from the mansion.
Admission is $5 for adults, ages 12-18 $2. For those age 11 & under as well as members of the DeWitt County Museum Association, admission is free.
Enjoy history, warmth and hospitality, beauty, and Christmas cheer, at the C.H. Moore Homestead DeWitt County Museum this holiday season as we celebrate the Illinois Bicentennial.
